Today we went to Children's to have an MRI, CT scan and bloodwork done. The CT scan was to be of Trystan's chest and the MRI of her lower right leg where the tumor is. The first nurse we had come into the room was to access Trystan's port, which she was unsuccessful. The nurse seemed to want to use Trystan like a pin cusion! I immediately got on my cell phone and called up to the clinic for help. They sent down one of their nurses to access her port. Once accessed, the nurse was able to draw the blood for counts. Tracy went into the room with Trystan when they gave her the anestesia. Once she was out we were free to go eat lunch and wait for the procedures to be finished. We no sooner got down to the cafeteria, got our food, and sat down to eat when the pager they gave us began to go off! We were both very worried since it had only been about ten minutes and they told us the entire wait would be about an hour to an hour and a half. I raced back to the outpatient area and asked what was the matter. The same nurse that couldn't access Trystan's port had "accidentally" paged us instead of someone else! I told her that she gave my husband and I a heart attack! She just responded, "Sorry about your heart attack." Turned around and walked away. I went back down to the cafeteria and told Tracy. He just said that maybe she should go home since she is having such a rough day. I agreed. While waiting, we received a call from the clinic to let us know that Trystan didn't make counts for her chemo admission. We would have to go get counts again on Monday morning for possible admission on tuesday of next week. She also told us that we will need to restart the "superhero" shots since her white cell count and anc have dropped back down. We will be giving her a shot today, tomorrow, and saturday.
After Trystan woke up from the anesthesia. She was hungry and ready to go! Of course it isn't that easy. They like for the kids to try to eat or drink something before they leave to be sure there isn't any vomitting. Trystan had a popsicle and was able to keep it down, so we were on our way home! She ate a really good late lunch and supper. Poor thing went about 18 hours with nothing to eat. We should find out the results of the scans in three to five business days.
