JEANS MONTH - HUGE SUCCESS!!!!!

We would like to share that our Jeans Month was a HUGE success!!! Trystan and Alyssa were able to raise $11,300 for St. Louis Children's Hospital 9th Floor Hematology/Oncology Unit.

Businesses had "clever" ways to participate in Jeans Month. We would like to share those with you:

-The Bond County Sheriff's Department allowed their deputies to pay to grow facial hair and their dispatchers to wear jeans.
-St. Mary's School, in Edwardsville, extended not only to their staff but to their students, who wear uniforms every day, to pay to wear their jeans on Fridays during the month of February!
-West Springs Church in Missouri dedicated a Jeans Sunday and all the members of the church paid $1 to wear their jeans to church that Sunday.
-Watson's Drug Store made buttons that said, "Ask Me Why I'm Wearing Jeans"
-McCracken, Dawdy, Hall Family Practice made stickers to explain why they were wearing jeans.
-Pickerill's Pick'n "N" Grinn'n hosted a fundraiser at their restaurant for an entire Saturday.

Those businesses that allowed their employees to pay to wear their jeans, varied in the way they participated. Some allowed their employees to wear jeans for the entire month! While others did once a week, every Friday, twice a week for the month, etc. Any way you look at it, the businesses of our community and surrounding communities came together to help "give back"!

We also had businesses and factories that are already allowed to wear jeans to work take up a collection just to help "give back."

We had more than three dozen businesses either participate or collecto donations:

Our family was overwhelmed with the response to Jeans Month. In the beginning we were hoping to raise $500-$1,000. That goal was met before February 1st. Our girls then set a goal of $5,000 and that was surpassed! Lastly, they set a goal of $10,000 which was met at the very end of March. But the calls and checks kept coming through the second week of March. Our family would like to thank the businesses who participated and gave donations! We would also like to thank the many inidividual donations we received from those who just wanted to give.

My husband and I took the girls down to St. Louis Children's Hospital March 21, 2010 to present the donations to the hospital. Upon arrival the hospital had printed a "HUGE" check to present. The girls presented the check to Dr. Wilson, Dr. Ziga, and Nurse Practitioner Karen from the 9th Floor.

Thank you all for everything,

The Watson Family :)

February 2012

February has been a busy month!
Trystan and Alyssa both participated in the first ever GHS Comet Dance Team Dance Camp on February 3rd. They had a great time. The girls then performed the dance they learned along with the dance team and other campers at the next home basketball game on February 10th.
February 11th Alyssa and I went to Powell Symphony Hall with the BRAVO 6th graders. We went and listened to them play different Disney music. It was FANTASTIC!! Tracy and Trystan spent the evening together while we were gone. Great father/daughter and mother/daughter bonding. :)
The girls also had dental appointments this month. I am happy to report that both girls are cavity free. Alyssa will need to be visiting an orthodontist very soon. She is losing her baby teeth and there isn't enough room for all of her permanat teeth to come in. We will probably go while we are off durning the summer.
Trystan was supposed to have her four month scans/appointment on February 20th. But, we got a call to cancel that appointment because the doctor would not be in that day. They were rescheduled for March 5th. Guess we'll have to hold off celebrating 2 years cancer free until then.
Alyssa participated in her first ever solo/ensamble contest on February 25th. We missed her first duet because they were running 40 minutes early! Ugh. :( We were not happy at all about that. She then performed again later that day in another duet and we were definately there for that one. She did fabulous! Alyssa walked away with two firsts!! Way to go Alyssa!! We are so super proud of you!! Later that evening, Trystan and I went with my mom to the Make-A-Wish Dance in Collinsville. Alyssa was too tired to go, so Tracy took her home and they spent an evening together. Another great father/daughter & mother/daughter evening.

January 2012

Happy New Year!!

New Year's Eve the girls and I went to Tim & Lori's for a small get together. Poor Tracy had to stay home as he was very ill. The girls had a blast playing with all the other kids that were there and I had a good time catching up with old friends.

Alyssa performed with other dancers from Fusion Dance Center at a Feet of Grace Dance Performance on January 20th. All donations that were received that night went to Konner, a little boy fighting brain cancer. He lives in Greenville as well. The weather that evening was aweful! Not as many people came out that we had hoped for but they did tape the performance and sold them to help raise a little more for Konner.

We are praying that this year is a good one filled with health and happiness for our family. :)
