JEANS MONTH - HUGE SUCCESS!!!!!

We would like to share that our Jeans Month was a HUGE success!!! Trystan and Alyssa were able to raise $11,300 for St. Louis Children's Hospital 9th Floor Hematology/Oncology Unit.

Businesses had "clever" ways to participate in Jeans Month. We would like to share those with you:

-The Bond County Sheriff's Department allowed their deputies to pay to grow facial hair and their dispatchers to wear jeans.
-St. Mary's School, in Edwardsville, extended not only to their staff but to their students, who wear uniforms every day, to pay to wear their jeans on Fridays during the month of February!
-West Springs Church in Missouri dedicated a Jeans Sunday and all the members of the church paid $1 to wear their jeans to church that Sunday.
-Watson's Drug Store made buttons that said, "Ask Me Why I'm Wearing Jeans"
-McCracken, Dawdy, Hall Family Practice made stickers to explain why they were wearing jeans.
-Pickerill's Pick'n "N" Grinn'n hosted a fundraiser at their restaurant for an entire Saturday.

Those businesses that allowed their employees to pay to wear their jeans, varied in the way they participated. Some allowed their employees to wear jeans for the entire month! While others did once a week, every Friday, twice a week for the month, etc. Any way you look at it, the businesses of our community and surrounding communities came together to help "give back"!

We also had businesses and factories that are already allowed to wear jeans to work take up a collection just to help "give back."

We had more than three dozen businesses either participate or collecto donations:

Our family was overwhelmed with the response to Jeans Month. In the beginning we were hoping to raise $500-$1,000. That goal was met before February 1st. Our girls then set a goal of $5,000 and that was surpassed! Lastly, they set a goal of $10,000 which was met at the very end of March. But the calls and checks kept coming through the second week of March. Our family would like to thank the businesses who participated and gave donations! We would also like to thank the many inidividual donations we received from those who just wanted to give.

My husband and I took the girls down to St. Louis Children's Hospital March 21, 2010 to present the donations to the hospital. Upon arrival the hospital had printed a "HUGE" check to present. The girls presented the check to Dr. Wilson, Dr. Ziga, and Nurse Practitioner Karen from the 9th Floor.

Thank you all for everything,

The Watson Family :)

June 29, 2010

Another busy day. The girls and I ran this morning to Vandalia to have the pool water tested and then to the camper store to pick up a part. Before leaving Vandalia, we HAD to stop at Wendy's for lunch. This is one of the girls' favorite restaraunts to eat at. When we got home I went out and started to add the necessary chemicals to the pool. The girls weren't too happy to have to wait to swim today. But soon got over it when they were able to get in the pool!

June 28, 2010

This morning the girls headed down to the basement to pick up the toys. While they were doing that, I was up on the first story cleaning. After eating lunch the girls and I ran to Highland to the bank and back home. They then did their activity pages. Of course after they were finished with that they wanted to swim! The weather was so nice today. Not too hot, which made the water feel a little cooler. The girls didn't seem to mind that though. I sat most of the time on the ladder trying to stay warm! :) Thank you God for the beautiful sunshine you sent us today!

June 27, 2010

This morning the four of us went to church together. Trystan hasn't been using her wheelchair at all. The only time she's been using it is for LONG walks like Wal-Mart, etc. After church we came home and wrapped two birthday gifts then we were off to Tim's house for Cade's birthday party. We stayed there until it was time to head to the next party at Russ's house for Tyler's birthday. But, first we had to take Tracy and Trystan home becuase she cannot be there because of her allergies. They had to have the party inside because of the rain. :( She really wanted to go too, but we can't control the weather or her terrible allergies! Alyssa and I stayed for a while then headed home in a terrible storm! I would've waited a little longer had I known how bad it really was! But, God got us home safe and sound! Whew. What a busy day!

June 26, 2010

This morning the girls and I did some cleaning upstairs while Tracy was out cutting the grass. The four of us took a break to eat lunch. After lunch, Tracy headed back outside to finish cutting the grass, I headed back upstairs to finish cleaning the bathroom, and the girls played together for a while. When I was finished cleaning the bathroom the girls and I headed out for a dip in the pool. We stayed out for a quite a while and when Tracy was finished mowing he joined us as well! Fun time was had by all!!! We finished off the day by the girls making homemade pizzas for dinner. Yum!!

June 25, 2010

This morning the girls did their activity pages right away and headed for the Wii! We then headed out to get some grocery shopping done. Came home after grocery shopping, put the groceries away, and took the girls to swim. Went out at about 2:30 and then next thing we knew it was 5:30! Time sure flies when you're having fun!! We then came in for me to prepare dinner, ate showered, relaxed, and off to bed! Tracy and I cannot begin to express out thankfulness to everyone who continues to pray for Trystan. Please keep them coming as she continues to progress leaps and bounds! God Bless.

June 24, 2010

This morning the girls did their Activity Page with little to no complaints! They know the routine now. No playing until it gets done! After they were finished the two played on the Wii for a while, then it was out the door for us. Took them birthday shopping for their cousin, we then headed to SIUE. We went to see Deanna who was retiring. Both places require a TON of walking, therefore I suggested that Trystan use her wheelchair. She didn't fight me too much on it. I think she is beginning to understand her limits as to how far she is able to go. We know that will get better with time as her leg continues to get stronger.

The girls were VERY well behaved at both places! I was so proud of them. I think they were just as excited to see everyone as I was! Sure do miss the people, but not the work stress! We left SIUE and came home. Since the girls didn't get to swim this afternoon, I let them go this evening from about 6-7. The four of us swam together. Trystan finally went under water today. At the time she wasn't too happy about it, but later asked if she could do it again tomorrow. We'll see what tomorrow brings! After swimming, I cooked a late supper and we all relaxed in the livingroom together. Thank you God for the wonderful family you have given to me!

June 23, 2010

It was extremely hot today! The girls and I went swimming for a couple of hours. They had a blast! Think the water will be great therapy for Trystan's leg, as well as fun too!

This morning the girls and I picked up my mom and we headed to Glen Carbon. I had an appointment over there, so my mom came along to watch the girls while I was in for my appointment. After my appointment we headed back to Highland and went to CVS. I had coupons for free prints. When we received my prints we then left and went for lunch together. Then it was time to drop mom off and head back to Greenville. The rest of the afternoon the girls played.

Trystan did an awesome job! Everywhere we went today she used her walker instead of her wheelchair. It deffinately wore her out but she insisted everytime to use the walker. Way to go Trystan!

June 21, 2010

This morning the girls got up and played for a short while, then I had them do their activity pages. Which they absolutely love, NOT! Other than that we played some board games and ran some errands in town. We are so proud of Trystan she's walking with her walker more and more everyday. Thank you God for these little miracles you give us everyday!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TRACY!!! The girls and I love you soooo much!!!!

This morning we went to church together. Came home and the girls and I changed our clothes. We then went with my sister to see my dad. Came home and ate dinner. Another uneventful day! Just the way we like it.

June 19, 2010

Today we spent most of the day at home. Except for this afternoon when the girls and I ran into town to pick up some cards and Father's Day gifts. Early this evening Cadence came over and the three girls played together. I then took the three of them to Alhambra Homecoming Parade. I think they had a pretty good time and came home with A LOT of candy! After the parade we met Tracy in Highland at Farmer's for dinner. The girls all pretty much cleaned their plates. I guess picking up all that candy at the parade worked them a good appetite! Came home after supper and the girls continue playing where they had left off. They were all upset when Cade had to go home and can't wait til she comes back over to play!

This morning we decided to head to the St. Louis Zoo. Kortnie, Alyssa, Trystan, and myself all went to the zoo together. We arrived at the zoo about 11:00 a.m. and stayed until about 3:45 p.m. Although it was very hot outside, we had a great time. We actually saw animals that we hadn't seen at the zoo before. The chimpanzees and the organgatangs were out in their outdoor habitats. I went to take a picture of a mama and baby and the mama stuck her tounge out and then smiled at us! It was too funny!! We also saw a lot of the big cats. We were a little bummed out because we didn't get to see the baby elephant calves like we saw the last time we were there. The butterfly house was great as well. There were so many butterflies out and active when we went through. Had a wonderful day with my girls and niece!

June 17, 2010

This morning the girls did their activity books. After they were finished we were supposed to go to the St. Louis Zoo for a while before going to the Physical Therapist at Children's. BUT!!! It started to rain while they were doing their activity books, so that changed our plans. The girls were upset that they weren't able to go. Maybe tomorrow. Instead, we stayed home and ate lunch. Left a little early for her pt appointment to pick up medications, then headed for St. Louis. It was a good thing we left early too! The traffic was terrible because of road construction in more than one place. Once we were there it went fabulously! Trystan is now using both of her legs to walk and she also got to ride one of the bikes that they have in the physical therapy department. She completely lit up when she got on that bike and was able to peddle it! I was just about in tears to see her so excited and actually doing it. We are continuing to praise God for the miracles he continues to give us!

June 16, 2010

This morning the girls did their activity pages and had breakfast. After breakfast the girls and I ran to Vadalia Wal-Mart to pick up some things. Then came back home and stayed here for the rest of the afternoon. The girls played in their makeup and dressed up. Today was the first day in almost a week that it didn't rain!

June 15, 2010

This morning I had the girls do some activity pages. I had slacked the last couple of weeks on having them do one page a day. So, today was a catch up day. After they finished their pages, they wanted to play in the basement. While they were down there, I took advantage of it and got some much needed cleaning done.

June 14, 2010

This morning Kortnie came over to play with the girls for the day. The girls were so excited that she was coming that they got up extremely early to wait for her to get here! Later in the morning the three girls and I ran some errands so that Tracy could do a conference call without any interruptions. We came back from running the errands and Trystan did her leg exercises and then played the rest of the afternoon until Kort's dad came by to get her. Just after Kortnie's dad came and got her the girls and I ran to Highland to the bank. On the way it began to storm. It was raining so much that I had to pull over in Millersburg. We only had to stop for about five minutes, we were then back on our way to Highland. Came straight home after that. Stayed home for the remainder of the evening.

June 13, 2010

This morning we went to church. Trystan used her walker to hop on her good leg. She's been doing great! We are so proud of her. After church we came home for lunch. We relaxed the rest of the afternoon and evening. We cannot stress enough how much we enjoy all of these uneventful days! Thank you God!!

This week Trystan will be going back to physical therapy and will learn how to walk with 50% weight on her right leg. We are excited and looking forward to the day our baby girl is walking again.

June 12, 2010

This morning the girls and I left the house at 5:30 a.m. to meet my mom at her house a little before 6 a.m. We then went and picked up her friend and headed to downtown St. Louis for the Komen Race for a Cure. This was Trystan and my first year walking, Alyssa's second year, and my mom's 11th year. It was really a good time. Very hot, but a good time. The rest of the afternoon the girls played together. Thanking God for another wonderful day!

June 11, 2010

This morning I took the girls to the last day of VBS. Can hardly believe that it's the last day already! The week has just flown by. After VBS, the girls, myself, Lori, and Cade all went to lunch with Grandma Watson. While we were eating lunch, Tracy called to let us know that Trystan's walker was delivered. She was so excited and couldn't wait to get home to use it! We then ran a couple of errands on our way home. As soon as we got home Trystan began using her walker. She really does well with it! The rest of the afternoon was free and the girls played. This evening we had dinner with the Watson side. After dinner we came straight home and we put the girls to bed. The girls and I are getting up super early in the morning to meet my mom for the Komen Race in St. Louis. Thank you Lord for another blessed day!

June 10, 2010

Had another wonderful day at VBS! Tomorrow is the last day. :( After VBS we came home and ate lunch and the girls played the rest of the afternoon. At least until it was time for us to go grocery shopping. We haven't been for a few weeks so we are in dire need of groceries!

June 9, 2010

This morning, the girls and I headed back to VBS. Tracy met us at the church after VBS was over so we could take Trystan to see Dr. McDonald, her surgeon. The four of us headed to St. Louis. Once we got there, Trystan had her x-rays done. After the x-rays we went back to the doctor's office. We weren't there very long and got called back to the room. When the doctor came into the room he showed us Trystan's x-rays. They're looking great and there is bone growth. He also told us that she can go ahead and start physical therapy for 50% weight bearing. Dr. McDonald also said that she no longer had to wear her leg brace. When Trystan heard that, a huge smile came to her face! More praising God today for the good news He has given us.

June 8, 2010

This morning got the girls up for Vacation Bible School at church. After VBS we came home for lunch and for me to get a little more caught up on laundry from the trip. We were only home for a couple of hours before we had to leave again. Trystan had a physical therapy appointment at 5 p.m. at Children's Hospital. I acturally made the appointment three weeks ago and this was the soonest they could get her in!

Once we were there, Trystan's physical therapist worked with her on some exercises she could be doing with her good leg and how to use a walker with her one good leg. She was going to have to order her a walker and it will be sent to our house. She will be going back to pt next week.

June 7, 2010

Came home today. Left the campgrounds a little after twelve noon. Stopped in Nashville, IL for a quick lunch and soon after got home. It's been an awesome week and it all must come to an end.

June 6, 2010

This morning was interesting. Tracy was outside the camper and the girls were playing on their bunk. All of the sudden Alyssa yelled, "Mom someone just went into the lake!" I ran out to find Tracy running into the lake to save a girl who had come flying down the hill on her bike and was unable to stop." He was able to pull her out as well as her bike.

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful and were able to have a nice relaxing day at Lake Rudolph Campgrounds. Felt bad that the girls were unable to swim today. But it was a little too chilly to go to the pool. So instead the girls hung around the campsites playing. We will be coming home tomorrow.

June 5, 2010

We went back to Holiday World today and were able to use our PassPort again for free entry to the park. We had yet another wonderful day! Instead of heading back to the camper for lunch we stayed and ate lunch at the park. More great weather and wonderful time with our family and friends!

June 4, 2010

We went to Holiday World today and were excited to be able to use the PassPort that was given to us from Give Kids The World for free tickets! We were a little nervous in the beginning of the day. We weren't sure how Trystan would react if she wouldn't be able to ride something. To our surprise she did pretty well and was able to get on almost every ride. We went to the amusement park in the morning, came back to the camper for lunch, and back to the water park in the afternoon. The waterpark was a real workout. Since Trystan is non-weight bearing we had to carry her up the flights of stairs to get to the top of most of the water slides. But...We did it! It was all very trying and difficult but in the end is always worth it! Thank you God for all of the blessings you continue to give our family.

June 3, 2010

Last night was something! There was a terrible storm with a ton of lightening and very loud thunder. Our campsite was located right off the lake. We have never been camping when a bad storm has hit. I think I can safely say that NONE of us would like to experience that again!

The rest of the day was filled with relaxation and swimming. While out and about, we happened to come accross Santa Clause walking around the Lake Rudolph Campgrounds. Later, the girls had a blast in the pool. It was a little cold but the kids loved it of course!

Tomorrow we will be heading to Holiday World!

June 2, 2010

This morning we left to take a trip to Santa Clause, Indiana. We take this trip every year at the end of the school year. With the exception of last year. Alyssa went with her Uncle Tim, Aunt Lori, and Cadence. Trystan was in the middle of her chemo, so Tracy and I stayed here with her, but wanted Alyssa to still be able to go and have fun!

We arrived at Lake Rudolph Campgrounds at about 2 p.m. By the time the camper was set up and everything was put away it was time to cook dinner. Nothing much else to report today. The girls were very excited to be here!

HAPPY 7TH BIRTHDAY TRYSTAN!!!!!

So hard to believe that Trystan is already seven! Last year on her birthday she was really sick from chemotherapy. We sure have come a long way! Thanking God especially today for giving us another year with her and that He is continuing to touch her body, healing her.

She woke up this morning and we gave her her present. She ripped it open and was so happy to see that she got her very own real sewing machine. I guess now is a good time for me to learn how to use it as well. I'm going to have to in order to show her how huh?

The girls did their daily Summer Workbook pages and then read for 20 minutes. We are especially doing this to catch Trystan back up with the rest of the students. They aren't too happy about it but we think in the long run it is best!

We later went to Vandalia Wal-Mart to get some grocery shopping done for our BIG camping trip and the to IGA for the items that Wal-Mart didn't have. Loving spending time with my girls!

This evening we invited my sister and her kids over for dinner to help us eat the left overs we have left over from Trystan's party from the Watson side. "This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it!" Thank you God for another wonderful day!!!
